Project SARA
Both share a professional background in contemporary dance and performance art.
Further studies in photography, visual arts, fashion and costume design broadened their artistic spectrum.
In their collaboration they introduce a body of work in which elements of visual arts, performative practices and the conceptual content play an equal role.
They approach their artistic process theatrically creating imagery of choreographed bodies and objects.
By balancing abstract and narrative elements they create visual dialogues that are situated on the edge of the real and imaginary.
A significant component of their projects is the appearance of fictional characters that occasionally refer to popular culture and cinema. The performative presence and interaction of those figures form narratives through which the conceptual topics of the projects are articulated.
In their last works Project SARA has been reflecting on environmental issues, consequences of global warming, awareness of nature and science-fiction aesthetics.
__________
the return of uncommon tales
In “The Return Of Uncommon Tales” Project SARA continues to reflect on environmental issues and the consequences of global warming. They picture a world with disturbed cycles of seasons, mutating nature and the progressive disappearance of plants.
In order to introduce this vision they dive into the genre of science fiction aesthetics. They create a universe of visuals and language through deconstructing retro futuristic imagery, contemporary science fiction movies and tv shows. By using for example phenomena like time travel and levitation that occur in ordinary spaces they establish a dialog with real and imaginary contexts.
“The Return Of Uncommon Tales” is a visual story telling project that doesn’t follow a linear dramaturgy but rather unfolds itself through disjointed narratives. The story is told through fictional characters that
correlate with the naïve approach to storytelling of the early science fiction films.

__________
the levitation of waste
in this photo series Project SARA has reenacted the act of throwing human left-overs that were collected in coincidentally encountered locations. These items were propelled through the air and have been photographed in the moment of levitation. The resulting series of images presents a counter movement to their usual path. Instead of approaching the ground they seem to float away.
__________
the desert of the real itself
The Anthropocene transforms into permanent simulacra. Due to the progressive depletion of natural resources reality is being replaced by simulations, in which nostalgia plays a significant role.
"The desert of the real itself" reflects on the future after warming, deficiencies of organic resources, disappearance of artifacts and the absence of memorable cultural codes.

just beneath the surface
I learned that just beneath the surface there's another world, and still different worlds as you dig deeper. I new it as a kid, but I couldn't find a proof. It was just a kind of feeling. There is goodness in blue skies and flowers, but another force... a wild pain and decay... also accompanies everything.
